About Brock

Brock is a Partner in our Calgary and Toronto offices.

Brock was the Chair of Blakes and the Firm’s Executive Committee for 14 years, from 2009 to 2023. In that capacity, Brock had overall responsibility for the Blakes strategic vision, long-term planning, client relationships and leadership of the Firm. Under Brock’s leadership, Blakes pursued continually higher standards in client-driven service as recognized in client-based rankings such as the Thomson Reuters Canada Law Firm Brand Index, which Blakes led for the seventh consecutive year in 2022. Blakes was also named a Best Diversity Employer 12 times during Brock’s term as Chair.

In his practice, Brock has led a number of Canada’s largest and most strategic mergers and acquisitions, capital markets and corporate/commercial transactions, and advised in respect of strategic governance matters, across multiple industries. In his client relationship management responsibilities, he has led or co-led many of the Firm’s relationships with leading Canadian issuers, financial institutions, investment dealers, pension funds and energy companies.

Brock is continually recognized as one of Canada’s leading business lawyers. In 2022, Brock was recognized in Canadian Lawyer magazine’s annual peer survey as one of the Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers in Canada, earning praise as "not only an incredible leader, but also compassionate and inspiring to junior lawyers following in his footsteps." Professional Activities

Brock has been a frequent speaker and has chaired several national and international conferences on corporate and securities law topics, including mergers and acquisitions (national and cross-border) and corporate governance.

He was a founding member of the advisory boards of the Canadian General Counsel Awards and 30% Club Canada, which focuses on increasing gender diversity on boards in Canada.
