About Chris Adamopoulos

Chris practises corporate and securities law, with a focus on capital markets, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and corporate governance.

Chris has experience assisting publicly traded issuers, private issuers and underwriters on a broad range of matters, including public and private M&A transactions, debt and equity offerings, corporate restructurings, corporate governance and compliance, continuous disclosure, and general corporate and commercial matters.

Chris also has experience advising clients on employment matters, including employment agreements, organizational policies, transaction-related employment considerations, and privacy law compliance.

Prior to joining Blakes, Chris practised at a leading international law firm. 

Select Experience

Prior to joining Blakes, Chris was involved in the following representative matters:

  • Represented a leading Canadian-based international fuel distributor on its acquisition by a U.S. energy infrastructure and fuel distributor valued at approximately US$9.1-billion

  • Represented a major Canadian telecommunications company on its offering of approximately US$1.5-billion aggregate principal amount of notes and approximately C$800-million aggregate principal amount of notes

  • Represented the agents in connection with the public offering by a senior crude oil and natural gas production company of approximately C$1.65-billion aggregate principal amount of medium-term notes

  • Represented a major Canadian oil and gas exploration and production company on its acquisition of a Montney‑focused upstream oil and gas company valued at approximately C$2.55-billion

  • Represented an energy infrastructure company on the acquisition of, and related equity financing for, Canadian crude oil pipeline and terminal assets valued at approximately C$400-million

  • Represented the underwriters in connection with the bought deal public offering by a Canadian-based energy royalty company of approximately C$172.5-million in common shares

  • Represented one of the largest retail co‑operatives in North America on its private acquisition of a majority interest in a national independent retail pharmacy group

Professional Activities

Chris is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Runnymede Society, and Christian Legal Fellowship. He is also a director of the Canadian Club of Calgary.
