About Jeremy

Jeremy advises some of the largest pension plans and pension fund investment managers in Canada on plan and fund governance, pension fund investment and related structuring, divestiture, acquisition, funding and de-risking issues. He also advises several large North American professional sports leagues on implementation and taxation of athletes, officials and employee pension and cross-border compensation arrangements.

In addition, Jeremy advises private- and public-sector employers, numerous Canadian and foreign consulting firms and financial institutions on pension fund investment structures, cross-border, pension legislation, tax, trust and benefit issues arising in connection with corporate transactions, privatizations, insolvencies, funding issues, ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements and the development and documentation of pension and employee benefit plans and related funding and custody arrangements.

Select Experience

Recent representative matters include:

  • SCOR Global Life in relation to the C$5-billion pension de-risking insurance contract with Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada/Bell Canada (BCE Inc.)

  • Borealis Infrastructure and LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services in connection with LifeLabs' acquisition of CML Healthcare Inc., a transaction valued at C$1.22-billion

Jeremy has written and spoken across North America on a wide range of topics in the areas of pensions (including related investment, governance, fiduciary, liability, trust and custodial issues), employee benefits, executive compensation and related income tax and pension legislation issues.

He is a member of the Association of Canadian Pension Management, the Canadian Tax Foundation, the International Pension & Employee Benefits Lawyers Association and the American Bar Association.
