About Gabriel

Gabriel’s practice primarily focuses on insolvency and restructuring law, as well as commercial litigation. He advises clients on all aspects of insolvency and restructuring proceedings and represents major financial institutions, insolvency professionals, private equity firms and distressed businesses in various sectors, among others.

In his commercial litigation practice, Gabriel is recognized for handling complex contractual disputes. Throughout his career, he has successfully represented public-sector and private-sector clients before courts at all levels throughout Canada.

Gabriel is fluent in English and French.

  • Acted for a major Canadian development bank in the restructuring proceedings under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA restructuring) of a Quebec-based medical clinic consolidator and operator

  • Advised a Canadian public technology company on its restructuring under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA restructuring)

  • Represented two solidarity funds (funds) in the CCAA restructuring of a major Quebec-based real estate developer relating to the acquisition of its entire interest in the historic site of a former brewing complex, and the subsequent sale of a portion of such interest to another Quebec-based real estate developer, making the latter and the funds equal owners of the property

  • Acted for a large Canadian bank, a secured creditor, in the restructuring and receivership proceedings of a Quebec-based industrial manufacturer

  • Represented a major Canadian development bank in the BIA restructuring of a major player in the pharmaceutical industry in Quebec and its real estate affiliate

  • Acted for a major Canadian development bank in the CCAA restructuring of a Canadian manufacturer and its related entities

  • Represented a Quebec-based lithium producer in proceedings brought by an individual seeking to obtain a royalty on metals extracted from the producer’s mine

  • Acted for a Canadian shoe retailer in its successful CCAA restructuring

  • Represented a Canadian TSX-listed clothing retailer in its CCAA restructuring

  • Advised an international private investor in the natural resources sector on the acquisition, along with a Quebec public investment firm, of a Quebec-based lithium company, in the context of a sale made pursuant to the CCAA

Gabriel lectured for several years on bankruptcy and insolvency law at McGill University’s Faculty of Law and at the Faculty of Law of the Université de Sherbrooke.
