About Emily

Emily's practice includes complex commercial litigation and class action defence, with a focus on product liability. She represents clients in civil proceedings involving pharmaceutical, contract, negligence and consumer protection claims. Emily also acts in insolvency proceedings involving complex product liability litigation. She has acted for national and foreign clients involved in numerous industries, including manufacturers of medical devices, pharmaceuticals, automobiles and consumer products, as well as financial institutions.

During law school, Emily held a student clerkship at the Court of Appeal of Quebec.

Emily is fluent in English and French and is conversant in Spanish and German.

Select Experience

Recent representative matters include:

  • Defending various multinational pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers in class actions involving a wide variety of medicines and devices

  • Defending multinational manufacturers in product liability class actions

  • Acting as counsel to the court-appointed monitor in the insolvency proceedings of JTI-Macdonald Corp., involving over C$600-billion of litigation claims asserted against the tobacco industry

  • Defending a technology and power transmission company in a large arbitration arising from a dispute relating to the construction of converter stations

  • Acting as part of a team that successfully defended a franchisor against a multimillion-dollar claim by its franchisees

  • Successfully representing a TSX Venture Exchange company in its going-private transaction by way of plan of arrangement under the Canada Business Corporations Act

  • Acting on behalf of Bloom Lake General Partner Limited and various affiliates owning one of the largest iron ore mines in Canada, in the context of proceedings filed under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act
