About Husayn

Husayn maintains a broad civil litigation and dispute resolution practice in both English and French. They have experience in class actions, defamation, environmental and regulatory, administrative law, and Aboriginal law matters. Husayn joined Blakes as an Associate from a leading national firm in Vancouver after clerking at the Federal Court. They have a particular affinity for legal research and writing.

During their clerkship, Husayn assisted their judge with a multi-week intellectual property trial and a range of judicial reviews. Husayn also assisted on a federal drip pricing class action under the Competition Act. They continue to apply the analytical rigour developed during their clerkship to deliver clear, effective solutions for clients across a range of disputes.

Husayn also maintains a pro bono practice. They help individuals respond to the non‑consensual distribution of intimate images, including working to remove such content from websites and online platforms under British Columbia's Intimate Images Protection Act.

Class Actions

  • Defending financial institutions, educational institutions and pharmaceutical companies against class actions across Canada

Defamation

  • Advancing the interests of corporate and commercial clients against defamatory communications, including on applications under the Protection of Public Participation Act

  • Advising on national injunctions and website blocking orders for alleged defamatory content that also infringed on trademark rights

Environmental and Regulatory

  • Acting in maritime and admiralty matters, including securing orders to release arrested vessels, lifting caveats, and litigating claims for damages caused by spoiled cargo

  • Defending entities in contaminated sites matters and quasi‑criminal environmental offences, including responding to regulatory investigations and litigating enforcement actions

Administrative Law

  • Representing project proponents in the judicial review of privacy and access to information issues, and challenging Cabinet decisions on mining and forestry licence applications
Awards & Recognition

Husayn received the Justice Edmond Blanchard Award from the Federal Court (2024–2025) for extraordinary commitment to improving the clerkship experience for their colleagues through initiative, leadership, a dedication to assist others, and excellence in legal research.

Professional Activities

Husayn is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Vancouver Bar Association and The Advocates' Society.

They also sit on the board of directors of the Federation of Canadian Secondary Students / Fédération des élèves du secondaire au Canada.
