About Jae Won

Jae Won’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions and capital markets transactions including financings, public offerings and private placements of securities.

Jae Won currently serves on the Finance and Administration Committee for the Canadian Hemophilia Society, a patient charity for hemophiliacs, where he advises the board on business matters. Jae Won is also a member of St. Michael's Young Leaders, a group of young professionals fundraising for St. Michael's hospital.

Jae Won joined Blakes as a summer student after his second year of law school and articled with the Firm upon graduation.

Select Experience

Representative experience includes advising:

  • goeasy Ltd. on several offerings of senior unsecured notes, amounting in aggregate proceeds of US$1.75-billion and C$150-million

  • goeasy Ltd. on a tender offer to purchase any and all of its outstanding senior unsecured notes due 2026

  • Pet Valu Holdings Ltd. on secondary bought deal offerings of 5,903,000 common shares and 4,690,000 common shares by its principal shareholders for total gross proceeds to the principal shareholders of approximately C$175-million and C$150-million, respectively

  • Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. on the sale of its non-regulated renewable energy business (excluding the company's hydro fleet) to a wholly-owned subsidiary of LS Power for total consideration of up to US$2.5-billion

  • dentalcorp Holdings Ltd. on its C$100-million bought deal treasury and secondary offering of subordinate voting shares

  • A major Canadian financial institution on its principal-at-risk structured notes program

  • ETF sponsors and asset managers, including Evolve Funds Group Inc.

  • Various companies on securities compliance matters, including corporate governance, continuous disclosure obligations, executive compensation and shareholder meetings
