About Gina

Gina's practice focuses on all areas of corporate and commercial litigation and dispute resolution. She has experience in a variety of areas, including appellate advocacy, arbitration, insurance, administrative law and constitutional law.

Gina is also a member of the Blakes Business Crimes, Investigations & Compliance group.  She has experience assisting clients with internal investigations and regulatory investigations, and provides advice on matters relating to modern slavery legislation.

Gina has appeared before administrative tribunals, the Federal Court of Canada, and all levels of court in Alberta. She has also provided written submissions to the Supreme Court of Canada.

Prior to joining Blakes, Gina worked as an associate at a large global firm and as a judicial law clerk to the Honourable Justice Russell Brown of the Supreme Court of Canada. She completed her articles of clerkship at the Alberta Court of Appeal under the Honourable Madam Justice Dawn Pentelechuk.

Prior to her career in law, Gina worked as a registered nurse in adult critical care for nearly a decade. Her diverse professional experience has equipped her with a solid foundation to effectively prioritize tasks, thrive in high-pressure situations and advocate passionately for her clients.

Select Experience

Representative matters in which Gina has been involved include:

  • Successfully representing the respondent in an appeal upholding a judicial review decision quashing a decision of the Minister of Energy under Alberta's oil sands royalty regime (Court of King's Bench decision reported at Shell Canada Limited v. Alberta (Energy), 2022 ABQB 4; Court of Appeal decision reported at Shell Canada Limited v. Alberta (Energy), 2023 ABCA 230

  • Assisting a construction client with their representation in a complex multi-week construction arbitration

  • Assisting an industry proponent with their representation in a judicial review in the context of the duty to consult

  • Representing clients on insurance matters including coverage disputes, limitation periods, interpretation of policy provisions, peril exclusions, and liability coverage relating to large infrastructure projects
