About Marie

Marie maintains a broad civil litigation and dispute resolution practice. She has acted for clients in complex commercial disputes, commercial arbitrations, judicial review proceedings, restructuring and insolvency matters, and administrative law matters. Marie has appeared as counsel before all levels of court in British Columbia, and acted as counsel in matters before the Supreme Court of Canada. She also represents clients in proceedings before administrative boards and tribunals.

Select Experience

Marie’s recent representative experience includes:

  • Acting as arbitration counsel to an owner in respect of a C$1-billion ICC arbitration claim regarding pipeline construction

  • Acting as defence counsel and appellate counsel for a pharmaceutical company in a class proceeding brought on behalf of all Canadian federal and provincial governments relating to the marketing and sale of medication containing opioids

  • Acting as litigation counsel in judicial review proceedings concerning environmental and Aboriginal law matters

  • Acting as defence counsel to a liquefied natural gas developer and an energy transportation and midstream service company from allegations of breach of confidence related to the development of a majority Indigenous-owned liquefied natural gas export project

  • Acting as litigation counsel to employers in respect of a civil disputes against former employees for fraudulent activity

  • Acting as counsel to a court-appointed receiver in complex Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act proceedings

  • Participating in class action defence teams in negligence and competition/antitrust claims

  • Advising clients on environmental and permitting matters

  • Acting as appellate counsel in an acquisition dispute between public mining companies concerning breach of contract and misrepresentation claims

Marie is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia, the Law Society of Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association, the Vancouver Bar Association, Canadian Construction Women, The Advocates' Society, the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers and the Japanese Canadian Law Association.
