About Patrick

Patrick maintains a broad civil and commercial litigation practice. He has experience in class actions, complex tort and contractual disputes, securities litigation, shareholder disputes, and commercial arbitration. Patrick has appeared as counsel before all levels of court in British Columbia. He has also assisted on matters before the Alberta Court of King's Bench, the Federal Court of Canada, and various arbitral and administrative tribunals, including the BC Human Rights Tribunal and the Alberta Securities Commission.

Patrick joined Blakes as a summer student in 2018 and completed his articles with the Firm in 2021. Prior to his articles, he clerked for seven justices of the Supreme Court of British Columbia, including the Chief Justice.

  • Counsel to a real estate investment and management firm in oppression and related proceedings concerning the ownership of commercial and residential properties, including at a three-week trial

  • Class action counsel for an active pharmaceutical ingredient supplier in a proposed national class proceeding 

  • Arbitration counsel to a climate tech company in an international arbitration involving claims of breach of contract and breach of good faith

  • Counsel to a global marketing, logistics and distribution company in a contractual dispute involving the international delivery of chemical elements

  • Counsel to a salmon farm operator in a Federal Court judicial review which overturned the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans' decision to end aquaculture in a region of coastal British Columbia

  • Counsel to a publicly traded railway company in actions involving claims of negligence

Professional Activities

Patrick is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia, the Canadian Bar Association, the Vancouver Bar Association and The Advocates' Society.
