About David

David's practice involves all aspects of corporate and commercial law. He assists clients with a broad range of business law matters, with an emphasis on investment funds and asset management, mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, sanctions compliance, and anti-bribery and corruption compliance. He acts for clients operating in a variety of industries including agriculture, energy, tech and real estate.

In 2023–2024 David completed a year-long secondment at a global real estate firm where he assisted business units across the organization on matters related to asset management, joint ventures, corporate governance and restructurings, and with various commercial contracts (including technology and development agreements).

  • A sovereign wealth fund's purchase of one of Canada's largest transportation and logistics companies

  • Nutrien Ltd.'s commercial arrangements with companies in Ontario and Alberta

  • Aritzia Inc.'s purchase of CYC Design Corporation/Reigning Champ

  • Heli Adventure Inc.'s purchase of Great Canadian Heli-Skiing Ltd.

  • Standard Industries Inc.'s purchase of FT Synthetics

  • Jim Pattison Group's purchase of Aggressive Transport Ltd.

  • Array Canada Inc. in a strategic refinancing transaction

  • The Fertility Partners Inc. in a strategic reorganization

  • Pension fund and institutional investors on private equity fund investments

  • Counsel to the Veterans Transition Network with respect to its operations to (successfully) evacuate over 2,600 refugees from Afghanistan

  • Assisting an Afghan women's charitable organization with various matters

Additional Experience

Additional experience includes:

  • Advising Canadian pension funds and private equity companies on anti-bribery and corruption issues related to their investments

  • Conducting a risk assessment for a major international company on its global operations

  • Acting for a multinational corporation in an arbitration relating to political risk insurance in a high-risk foreign energy jurisdiction

David regularly provides advice to a number of not-for-profit and charitable organizations on a pro-bono basis, including advising Canadian non-profit organizations with respect to their operations relating to Afghanistan.
