About Rebecca

Rebecca is a patent litigation lawyer who focuses on complex disputes in the pharmaceutical and life sciences sector. She regularly acts in proceedings under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations, including disputes involving innovative medicines, formulations and dosage forms. She also advises on IP strategy and life science regulatory issues, including matters involving Canada’s Patented Medicine Prices Review Board (PMPRB).

With a PhD in microbiology and years of scientific bench research, Rebecca brings a strong understanding of the science that underpins many life sciences disputes. She works with clients to understand their technology and commercial objectives, and applies that perspective to patent litigation strategy and regulatory advice.

Rebecca has successfully represented clients before the Federal Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal and the PMPRB.

Select Experience

Notable matters include representing:

  • AbbVie in several ongoing patent infringement actions involving the blockbuster drug, HUMIRA (adalimumab), in which AbbVie was successful in finding that the formulation patent was valid and infringed (AbbVie Corporation v. Jamp Pharma Corporation)

  • Merck in a patent impeachment trial against Pfizer related to a pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (V114), in which Merck successfully cleared the path to launch its V114 vaccine in Canada (Merck v. Wyeth)
