About Rodney

Rodney advises clients on a wide variety of real property matters, including purchase and sale transactions involving mixed-use, multi-tenant residential, office, industrial and retail properties, mortgage financing and development and planning matters. He has a broad range of experience, from assisting with the due diligence process through to real estate transaction closing.

Rodney has advised clients in a variety of industries, including conventional and renewable energy companies, major commercial and residential developers and landlords, shopping centres, hotels, and financial institutions. His practice focuses on banking and commercial lending transactions, including debt financing, project finance, acquisition finance and other transactional debt-related work.

Select Experience

Representing as lead counsel or as a part of the Blakes Financial Services group on the following matters:

  • Lenders in the establishment of, and ongoing advisory services for, syndicated credit facilities for Athabasca Oil Corporation

  • Numerous large, mid-market and smaller syndicated and non-syndicated credit facilities led by Canadian banks ranging in size from C$5-million to C$5.5-billion

  • Agrium Inc. on certain domestic and international financings for itself and its subsidiaries as well as general corporate matters

Matters representative of Rodney's real estate practice include:

  • BluEarth Renewables Inc. on the development and project financing of a 33 MW hydroelectric facility in British Columbia, including working with private landowners, governmental departments and First Nations to secure project consents, licences, land rights and approvals for development, construction and operation
