About Simon

Simon's practice covers various fields of commercial litigation, including disputes between competitors, public procurement matters, professional malpractice and post-closing disputes. A seasoned class action litigator, Simon has defended corporations in over 50 class actions, principally in consumer and competition matters, including multi-jurisdictional and highly mediatized ones. In the course of his practice, he regularly appears before courts and administrative tribunals in Quebec and has conducted several civil and penal trials, including multiple class action merits trials and appeals.

Simon also advises corporations and individuals in relation to regulatory or criminal matters, such as anti-corruption, competition, securities or financial matters. In this context, he advises clients in conducting internal investigations and in responding to investigations by government authorities or commissions of inquiry. He also defends clients in enforcement proceedings brought by government authorities and self-regulatory organizations, including public prosecutors and securities regulators.

Simon has advised national and international corporations on various matters dealing with dispute avoidance, corporate governance and compliance with specific statutes in Quebec and Canada.

Simon is fluent in French and English.

  • Defended the executive of a public company in a highly mediatized securities class action

  • Represented the mutual insurer of the large accounting firms in civil proceedings related to the longest-running judicial saga in Canada

  • Advised corporations during the course of investigations by government authorities, including during the execution of search warrants

  • Conducted internal investigations on behalf of public companies

  • Represented a mining company in the context of one of the most important environmental investigations in Canada

  • Defended healthcare, financial and legal professionals and their firms in malpractice claims or regulatory inquiries

  • Represented financial institutions in the context of regulatory investigations and enforcement proceedings

  • Represented corporations in cases of alleged fraud, including cases involving provisional injunctions and seizures before judgment

  • Defended electronics manufacturers and distributors in product liability claims

  • Represented purchasers and sellers in the context of pre-closing and post-closing disputes

  • Designated as independent compliance monitor in Canada's first remediation agreement in a monitorship of SNC-Lavalin
