About Sydney

Sydney practises in all areas of tax law, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, financings, private equity, and capital markets transactions in both the domestic and cross-border context.

Prior to joining Blakes, Sydney clerked for the judges of the Tax Court of Canada and articled at a litigation firm.

Sydney is fluent in French and English.

Select Experience

Recent representative matters in which Sydney has been involved include assisting:

  • TC Energy Corporation in respect of the spinoff of its liquids pipelines business into South Bow Corporation, thereby completing its separation into two independent, publicly listed companies

  • A joint venture between Kineticor (an OPTrust portfolio company) and Pembina Pipeline Corporation in connection with the receipt of assigned capacity under Phase I of Alberta's Large Load Integration program for data centre development, and related development of the proposed Greenlight Energy Centre

  • Vitesse Energy Inc. in its US$222-million acquisition of Lucero Energy Corp.
     

Professional Activities

Sydney is a member of the Association des juristes d’expression française de l’Alberta, the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Canadian Petroleum Tax Society, the Calgary Bar Association, and the Canadian Bar Association.
