Pandemic or not, recent changes have been made to the
Financial Consumer Agency of Canada Act as well as to the
Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act. In the case of the FCAC, these changes have expanded regulatory powers. For FINTRAC-regulated entities, there are new reporting timelines and compliance obligations, including the publication of new guidance in respect of suspicious transaction reporting. In addition to these changes, both FINTRAC and the FCAC have been vocal on expectations in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Règlement sur la formation continue obligatoire des avocats (Regulation respecting mandatory continuing education for lawyers – available in French only) of the Barreau du Québec, which came into force on April 1, 2019, the status of “recognized provider” and the mandatory “recognition” of activities have been abolished.
