On June 20, 2024, amendments to the Competition Act targeting “greenwashing” came into effect, creating new risks and compliance obligations for businesses making environmental claims. Following a public consultation and release of draft guidance in late 2024, the Competition Bureau’s Greenwashing Enforcement Guidelines will be officially published prior to the new private right of action coming into force on June 20, 2025.
