About Lindsay

Lindsay practises all aspects of commercial litigation and arbitration with a focus on complex construction, infrastructure, and energy disputes. She regularly advises clients in domestic and international commercial arbitrations.

Lindsay appears at all levels of court in Alberta, including in trials and appeals. She also acts in regulatory proceedings, including before the Alberta Energy Regulator and the Alberta Securities Commission, and in matters before the Supreme Court of Canada.

Lindsay is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb) and the Y-ADR Steering Committee of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution (CPR).

At Blakes, Lindsay is a co-chair of the Calgary Student Committee.

Construction, Infrastructure, and Energy Disputes

  • Counsel for Coastal GasLink Pipeline in the Alberta Courts and the Supreme Court of Canada in the successful defense of an injunction application involving a C$117-million draw on a letter of credit (decisions reported in Pacific Atlantic Pipeline Construction Ltd and Bonatti S.p.A. v Coastal GasLink Pipeline Limited, 2024 ABKB 736; 2024 ABCA 214; leave to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada dismissed)

  • Counsel for an owner in a large ICC arbitration involving the construction of energy facilities

  • Arbitration counsel to project owners and contractors in construction disputes involving delay claims and cost overruns

  • Arbitration counsel to a large energy company in a dispute involving natural gas facilities and gas production and accounting issues

  • Counsel to Canadian energy companies in proceedings involving pipeline failure and force majeure claims

  • Counsel for facility owners and contactors in disputes involving the assessment of gross negligence and wilful misconduct claims

  • Counsel to a renewable energy facility owner in a dispute about the construction and operation of renewables infrastructure

Commercial Disputes

  • Trial counsel for a major transportation service company in a complex commercial real estate dispute

  • Lead counsel for a media and ticketing company in the successful defense of a contract and accounting dispute involving a contractor

  • Counsel in contaminated site and environmental remediation proceedings before the Alberta Energy Regulator and Alberta Courts

  • Counsel for financial institutions in proceedings involving breach of contract, negligence, and employee dispute claims

Professional Activities

Lindsay is an instructor for the University of Calgary Faculty of Law Advocacy Program. She also volunteers with the King's Bench Amicus Program, where she provides pro bono legal advice to unrepresented litigants.

Lindsay regularly writes about litigation and arbitration issues and trends. She is a frequent contributor to Arbitration Matters.
