About Robin

Robin has extensive litigation expertise in British Columbia and Ontario in the defence of class actions and product liability, consumer protection, competition/antitrust, privacy and regulatory compliance cases. She also regularly advises clients on risk management and litigation avoidance in these areas. Robin has a proven record of defeating class actions prior to certification and experience defending class action cases through discovery and trial. She has appeared as lead counsel at all levels of the courts of British Columbia and is recognized as a leader in the area of class action defence by Chambers Canada, The Canadian Legal Expert Directory (Lexpert), The Best Lawyers in Canada and Benchmark Canada.

  • Part of the trial team that successfully defended one of the world's leading manufacturers of life-saving cardiac devices in the first medical products class action to go to trial in Ontario (146 trial days), which resulted in a decision dismissing the national class action alleging negligent design, testing and recall

  • Trial counsel to Microsoft Corporation and Microsoft Canada in a class action alleging breaches of the Competition Act and various other economic claims regarding the sale of operating system and software products throughout Canada

  • Lead counsel to a furniture retailer in the successful defence of a proposed class action regarding cashable vouchers

  • Counsel to Coca Cola Ltd. in the successful defence of a proposed class action concerning vitaminwater® based on the B.C. Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act and in the coordination of the Canadian litigation regarding vitaminwater®

  • Counsel to a financial institution in the successful defence of a proposed class action alleging breaches of the B.C. Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act and other claims with respect to the disclosure of title insurance fees for residential mortgages

  • Counsel to leading pharmaceutical, medical device, consumer health product and food/beverage manufacturers on product liability, consumer protection and labelling/marketing individual actions and class actions

  • Counsel in numerous anti-trust class actions, including proceedings in respect of packaged bread, car carrier (vessel) services, various auto parts, metals and forged components, foam, and cellular communication standards

  • Counsel to Merck & Co., Inc. and Merck Frosst Canada Ltd. in a proposed class action related to Propecia® and Proscar®

  • Counsel to a multinational automobile manufacturer in defence of a product liability claim alleging unintended acceleration

  • Counsel on a successful application for interim injunctive relief to freeze funds pending trial in an action alleging fraud and conspiracy

Professional Activities

Robin is a former co-chair of the executive of the Class Action Section of the Canadian Bar Association British Columbia Branch. She regularly writes and speaks on topics related to class actions and product liability.

Robin is also committed to the Firm's award-winning pro bono program and has provided assistance to local charities and international organizations on a pro bono basis. She previously served on the board of directors of the Women's Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) and continues to provide advice and act as litigation counsel to LEAF.
